HOW CAN COUNCILS IMPROVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY?
Following the launch of the Local Authority Energy Index, a two- hour live debate took place on the Guardian Public Leaders Network, where experts came together to share best practice and discuss what cash-strapped councils can do to go green against a backdrop of cuts.
The Local Authority Energy Index developed by Knauf Insulation considers how Local Authorities have worked to influence the local energy and energy efficiency agendas, along with measuring and ranking their work in this area. On the 12th December 2014, a panel of experts united to discuss this topic further; how councils can improve energy efficiency by exploring what financial help is available, what’s the most cost-effective way of upgrading their properties, how they can increase their supply of renewable energy and much more.
The UK has obligations to improve energy efficiency and with local councils owning a huge proportion of the country’s vast property portfolio, it is essential that they upgrade these buildings to higher energy efficiency standards.
